Important 21st Century Women: Rene Stout

For the remainder of Women's History Month we are going to daily highlight important women artists of the twenty-first century.

Let's kick things off with Renee Stout. As you can see above, she makes very intricate, somewhat melancholic, deeply personal assemblages and paintings. She lives and works in our fair city, and is an important ambassador for art in DC. Her work is quite related to Betye Saar, Whitfield Lovell, William Christenberry (earlier sculptures), and Leonardo Drew.

You can learn more about Renee Stout by memorizing these numbers: 709.2 S889ZO and 704.042 H178 and racing down to the library because these books are going fast!
