The List

Exciting new titles have arrived for the Arts and Humanities division! One that caught my eye is Always Been There - Rosanne Cash, the List, and the Spirit of Southern Music (782.4216 S9155AL). Legend Johnny Cash gave his daughter a list of 100 songs he felt she should know. Thirty-five years later, in 2009, Rosanne Cash turned "The List" into an album. Written by Michael Streissguth, author of Johnny Cash: The Biography, this book documents the songs, the woman, and the Southern musical tradition of which they are a part.

Also new this week, A Heartbeat and a Guitar: Johnny Cash and the Making of Bitter Tears by Antonino D'Ambrosio (782.4216 D156). It is the story of Cash's little known protest record of 1964 - Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian. From this controversial album came the popular song "The Ballad of Ira Hayes," which you may have heard.

And while we're on the subject, check out Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison: the Making of a Masterpiece also by Michael Streissguth (782.4216 S9155).
