Those We've Lost

As we head into 2010, I thought we should review and remember the musicians that we have lost in 2009. Although Michael Jackson's death spurred a blockbuster film, a TV show, and a rekindled Jackson hysteria throughout the country, other passings went quietly:

Mary Travers of "Peter, Paul, and Mary"
November 9th, 1936 - September 16th, 2009
check out: "The Peter, Paul, and Mary Songbook" with photographs by Barry Feinstein (M784.8 P478)

Les Paul (an innovator of guitar styles and sounds)
June 9th, 1915 - August 13th, 2009
check out: "Gibson Les Paul Book: a complete history of Les Paul guitars" by Tony Bacon and Paul Day (787.87 B129)

Mike Seeger (of the New Lost City Ramblers)
August 15th, 1933 -August 7, 2009
check out: "Talking Feet: solo dance of the Appalachian, Piedmont, and Blue Ridge mountains." (793.3197) as well as several Smithsonian Folkways recordings located in our Popular library.
